Nearly every person who attends says, “I want to be independent.” Life skills are what will help make that happen. We should know- Community Connections developed the concept of a Life Skills program that would work hand-in-hand with Day Habitation.
We recognized years ago that teaching life skills was an important component for success. Because we promote an independent way of living, these skills are a key part of making people more self-sufficient. More importantly, they can instill feelings of empowerment and an “I can do it myself” attitude.
“My Experience at Community Connections”- Nicole Cummings
I have been at CCI for 11 years; I started out at the Day Hab where they would take me out to do lots of fun things like going to lunch, bowling, and the park. I met lots of nice staff, some of them don’t work at Community Connections anymore but I like the fact that I am able to stay in contact with the other staff members. I feel like many of them are like family to me. The Day Hab staff helped me graduate from that program and become a member of the Life Skills program where I do the same things as I did at Day Hab but better and most importantly with independence!
