Mayor Flanagan Welcomes the Newest Community Connections Facility to Fall River
Community Connections held a ribbon cutting ceremony and open house celebrating its newest location in Commonwealth Landing from 4 – 6 PM on Tuesday, March 12.
Mayor William Flanagan, the Fall River Chamber of Commerce, and Alan Macomber of Commonwealth Landing each said a few words on behalf of what Community Connections offers the residents of Fall River. President and CEO Donna Sabecky then spoke about the new state of the art facility and what it means to the individuals we serve. She presented a plaque dedicating our therapy room to Commonwealth Landing on behalf of their continued support of our agency. The ribbon cutting ceremony was followed with tours and light refreshments in the new program space.
The new location on Davol Street offers an extensive Day Habilitation program. Community Connections doubled their space with a dedicated therapy room, specialized therapy equipment, and customized hallways, bathrooms, and nursing stations to accommodate medical devices. A major benefit to the new building is the therapy room. The large open space features stationary stairs, parallel bars, and suspension swings. Client therapy rooms run the perimeter of the location which allows for the natural lighting of the floor to ceiling historic mill windows to pour in. Each therapy rooms is decorated unique themes such as movie room, sports room and tropical room.
This new facility is a far cry from the institutions once housing individuals with complex medical needs. “Our goal is for people to get up in the morning, to look forward to coming here and to have a full range of activities with staff and friends,” said Sabecky. “We want to give them the ability to live a full life in the community, the ability to work and play.”
