Donors Step Up to Support Community Connections Annual Gala by the Sea
Community Connections celebrated its 27th Gala by the Sea on Friday, October 26, 2012 with record fundraising. Over $80,000 was raised by the annual event. The money raised from the annual event will help the organization expand operations and supplement its programs for adults with cognitive and physical disabilities throughout the region.
“It really was a remarkable evening at Wequassett and we are grateful for the generosity of the people who continue to support us year after year,” said Community Connections Chairman of the Board Duncan Macallister.
This year’s bidders walked away with trips to Disney and South Africa, loge box seats to see the Celtics, an exclusive opportunity to spend an evening with master chef Danielle Disiato-Hallman, original artwork from the Community Connections Art Therapy group, and many more items.
Guests also stepped up by donating $25,000 towards purchasing necessary therapy equipment. The contributions will help outfit the organization’s new State-of-the-Arts Day Centers in Fall River and Mashpee. Over 110 people with intellectual and physical disabilities, many with complex medical issues, will benefit from the use of specialized equipment that meet each participant’s medical and physical needs.
“Community Connections clients starred in a short video that highlighted the highly specialized equipment that they use each day,” said Auctioneer Kathy Kingston. “It was moving, inspirational and helped our attendees remember why they should raise their bid cards high.”
This year’s event would not have been possible without the support of the sponsors and advertisers who underwrote the evening. The Community Connections Development Committee would like to thank: Insurance Professionals of New England, Cordeiro Insurance, Cape Destinations/Jay’s Equipment Repair, Cape Cod Five Cents Savings Bank, Gilberti and Associates, Philadelphia Insurance, and Rogers and Gray Insurance Agency.
“Our Board of Directors, Committee members, staff and volunteers help make this a special evening with their support. It’s truly a team effort and we greatly appreciate all of the hard work and time that goes into making it happen,” said Community Connections Fundraising Manager Christen Gray.
