Community Connections expands services in the Wareham area
February, 2014 – This month, Community Connections will join the Wareham community as they open their newest center for adults with disabilities. The nonprofit organization will be moving into a newly renovated facility on Church Avenue directly behind Tobey Hospital.
This facility will replace Community Connections’ present location in Marion. The new Wareham location will offer services for adults with disabilities including Day Habilitation, Life Skills, Employment Services, and Transportation.
The building has been custom-designed for individuals with disabilities and features wider hallways to accommodate wheelchairs, bright program rooms with natural lighting, large accessible bathrooms, and an accessible kitchen with counters and a sink at wheelchair level.
Clients will participate in daily activities and life skill training, enjoying social, recreational, and volunteer activities as part of the community.
“We are extremely pleased to be expanding our program into Wareham. We have found that there is a need for services in this area, and are looking forward to becoming a part of the community.” said Donna Sabecky, President and founder of Community Connections.
There is also a focus on the value of therapies with dedicated rooms for physical therapy and speech therapy. Physical therapists will work to increase strength and balance in the Physical Therapy Room. Occupational therapists will work with clients to help them develop their day-to-day skills: from cooking to laundry. Speech therapists will work with clients who need assistance in communication. They make use of a variety of methods, including specialized apps on the iPad.
Service areas for the new Wareham Day Center include: Bourne, Carver, Fairhaven, Marion, Mattapoisett, New Bedford, Plymouth, Rochester, Sagamore, and Wareham. Those interested in placement at the new program may call 508-748-9595.
