Therapeutic  Riding

Therapeutic Horseback Riding helps people with disabilities express themselves more clearly and to improve overall confidence levels as they achieve something they never thought possible. Adults with disabilities receive an alternative and innovative form of therapy that improves mental and physical health. It also affords individuals with an educational experience by enhancing self-esteem, improving physical coordination and helping them to learn skills that will increase their independence.

A group from our Somerset Center recently paid a visit to Wellspring Farm in Rochester, MA where they participate in the therapeutic riding program. They spent the day with the animals and engaged in activities tailored to each individual’s goals, including physical, speech and occupational therapies. Utilizing the entire farm environment, the group is involved in every aspect, from bottle feeding to grooming.  We are able to take therapy beyond the center and create a social learning environment that is engaging and fun for our clients and staff.
